Australian Cattle Dogs
August 16, 2009—Beautiful “Indie” is happy with his new family and we’ll be posting pictures soon from his new owners and those of his beautiful siblings as they grow…
April 14, 2009 At 6 weeks of age, the pups have shown tremendous growth. Look at those solid cattle bones. We are so taken with each one we really are finding it difficult to decide who is staying on with Kirra as the second ACD at Wholearth Farmstudio. They are getting raw goats milk, raw minced lean beef, eggs, Wellness puppy kibble, and are being introduced to lamb and chicken meat as well. Oh yes and still getting a bit from their mother, decreasing daily as we wean them off. They are seeing lots of adoring visitors and being well-socialized…This group is well suited to show, herding, agility, flyball, dock dogs..
Contact us by email or call 705-696-2556 if you feel yours is the forever home for one of these beautiful, intelligent (incredible!) dogs, and we’ll email an application.

Ahh Puppy Breath…

April 5, 2009 The puppies are 5 weeks old today, here they are pictured above, slowing down for a nap after rolling and tumbling about the on the lawn in front of the farmhouse. Some of these delights are spoken for, but there are a couple available. We are accepting puppy applications for those looking to bring a special dog into their lives…
Here at Wholearth we are currently indulging in the sweet puppy breath of Kirra’s (Agassiz’s Kirra of Triblue) gorgeous litter sired by Lorraine Norris’s handsome Deakster (Champion Agassiz’s Dreamtime Deacon Blu, HIC). The litter of 3 boys and 3 girls, born March 1st, 2009, are gaining in leaps and bounds, and are super socialized and responsive…we put much time, care and love into them.
We are acclimatizing them to various settings, sights and sounds, to help them towards being calm, confident companions in their new homes. They are used to our cats, other dogs, and will meet the sheep, lambs, pony, turkeys, pigs and chickens in the weeks ahead.
We are looking for dedicated, caring and loving homes for these lovely puppies. This breed is highly intelligent, empathetic, intuitive…and want to please. They are very trainable, and do their best when given the opportunity to think and work… they need a job, if not herding sheep then fetching your paper or a Kong in and out of the pond or hiking or jogging with you daily. They make excellent agility and flyball Frisbee dogs. They want to do stuff—that is, they perform best with brain stimulation and physical activity.
You’ve heard it said that owning a dog is a long-term commitment. It’s true. It’s only fair that you consider your lifestyle and the lifetime of the dog before your purchase. The best dog breed for you and/or your family will be a breed that matches your actual lifestyle. Read up on the Australian Cattle Dog breed before you make this important decision. ACD’s are amazing dogs…BUT they are not for everybody. They need obedience training and firm but gentle discipline, and consistent clear communication with their owner and family.
Australian Cattle Dogs can be strong willed but they are very sensitive as well, and develop a deep loyalty to their human pack members. If I sound like I am trying to make each potential puppy owner jump through a few hoops — I AM! I ask that each person who wishes to share the rest of a cattle dog’s life consider if they are ready, responsible and deserving of such an animal. An ACD will enrich your life—you must promise to do the same for your dog’s life. Your Australian Cattle Dog will depend on you; entrust you with it’s health and well-being; and expect your guidance in developing it’s full potential.
If you are ready, an Australian Cattle Dog will be the best dog you ever owned, hands down.

Health Guarantee

Both parents of this litter (and their sires and dams and theirs) have had health clearances for hearing (BAER), hips (OVC or OFA certification) and eyes (CERF, ERG or PRA DNA tested). DNA testing is now available for the genetic determination of Progressive Retinal Atrophy (prcd type), and trusted breeders only breed dogs that will either produce clear or carriers of the eye abnormality. We will not knowingly breed any dogs that may produce the disease. A carrier will not become an affected dog.
At 7 to 8 weeks of age the pups are ready for their new homes—complete with vet check, dewormed, BAER hearing tested, microchipped and with their first set of puppy shots. We will send you off with a puppy package including medical record, feeding and vaccination schedule, puppy toys, leash, collar, biscuits and food.
Once you are home with your pup…don’t hesitate to call us…keep in touch and let us know if you have any questions about your new little Cattle Dog.

Canadian Kennel Club Registered
Pups will be registered with the Canadian Kennel Club within 6 months and we’ll send along a five-generation pedigree. All pups are sold on a Non-Breeding Contract that is also registered with the Canadian Kennel Club. If purchased for showing or breeding, this contract may be lifted at the owner’s expense when certain health requirements are met. If you are interested just email us and we’ll send along a purchasing contract and our specific health guarantee for you to look at.
